Tesla Hogan Personality Test

Every Tesla applicant who makes it past the phone interview stage will be asked to take the Hogan personality test.

The test seeks to understand if you have the motivations, traits and characteristics that Tesla most values in its employees.

The Hogan personality test looks at five different facets of the human personality: openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism (otherwise known as OCEAN).

By answering questions on hypothetical workplace scenarios, you’ll build up a picture of the kind of person you are and the OCEAN traits you possess, which in turn gives Tesla a better chance of understanding whether you’re likely to do well in the culture and environment of the company.

Tesla is then able to predict your performance based on the problem-solving, strengths, weaknesses, and values you’ve displayed throughout the course of the test.

Although this isn’t a test you can necessarily prepare for, you can look at the company values and put together a picture of the type of employee they’re likely to value based on the company’s goals, motivations and objectives.

Tesla Assessment Centre

If you do well on the Hogan personality test, Tesla will invite you to the final stage in the process — the assessment centre.

Designed to see how you work as part of a team, and how well you cope under pressure, the day (sometimes, it can be a couple of days), involves a series of activities that may include: group discussions, a presentation, role-playing, tests and more interviews.

All eyes will be on you, so make sure you are engaged, interested, confident and strike the balance between listening to others while also sharing your own ideas and opinions.

General preparation for numerical, mechanical and verbal reasoning tests as well as brushing up on your technical skills where necessary will also be useful depending on the role you applied for.
